Editorial policy: our human review gate
PowerGuardian uses automation to fetch UK energy news, generate weekly market summaries and compile supplier scores. Automation drafts the content — a human editor decides whether it goes live.
What we manually review
- News articles ingested from external sources — headline, summary, categorisation and any commentary we add.
- Monday UK Energy Savings Briefing — the weekly subscriber email and its public archive.
- Weekly Energy Market Roundup — including price watch figures, supplier news and the week's outlook.
- Any post referencing prices, tariffs, dates or supplier scores before it is shared on our social channels.
How the gate works
Drafts by default
Auto-generated news, briefings and roundups are saved as unpublished drafts. They are invisible on the public site until an editor approves them.
Named approver, timestamped
When we approve an item, we record the reviewer and the exact time. That "Human-reviewed by … on …" line is shown on the public page so anyone can verify it.
Checks before publishing
Editors verify the Ofgem cap figure, tariff numbers, dates, supplier names and scores against the underlying sources before approving. If a figure looks wrong, the item stays a draft.
Corrections
If you spot an error, email hello@powerguardian.co.uk and we will correct or unpublish the item. Corrections are noted on the affected page.
Sources of truth
Price-cap figures always come from our central Ofgem audit record and are shown consistently across the site. Supplier scores are read live from the Supplier Monitor database — the Weekly Roundup and research reports use the same values. See the methodology for how each dataset is compiled.
Social media
PowerGuardian does not auto-post news, briefings or roundups. Any social post that references prices, tariffs, dates or supplier scores is queued for the same human approval before it is shared.
