    UK SEG Earnings Calculator

Estimate your annual Smart Export Guarantee income from your solar system size, how much you export and the SEG tariff you choose. Compare supplier export rates to see what your solar could earn.

Independent UK energy information from PowerGuardian.

Figures reviewed June 2026 and updated monthly where appropriate. All results are estimates.

A typical UK home installation is around 3–4 kWp.

Homes without a battery typically export around 50%.

Uses an average of 21.0p/kWh for this tariff.

This tool assumes a typical UK yield of about 900 kWh per kWp per year. Supplier rates shown are illustrative 2026 figures and ranges are averaged. Results are an estimate, not a guaranteed income.

SEG rates vary hugely between suppliers and change often, so reviewing your export tariff yearly is the easiest way to earn more. You can use a different supplier for export than for import — and a battery lets you time exports for higher-value smart tariffs.

How the SEG Earnings Calculator Works

The calculator estimates how much electricity your solar system generates in a year — your system size in kWp multiplied by a typical UK yield of about 900 kWh per kWp. It applies your export share to work out how many units go back to the grid, then multiplies those exported units by your chosen SEG rate to give your indicative annual Smart Export Guarantee income.

What Affects Your SEG Income the Most

The two biggest levers are your SEG rate and how much you export. Rates range from a few pence to over 25p/kWh, so switching to a better export tariff can dramatically change your income. Exporting more (for example when the home is empty during the day) increases SEG income, while self-consuming more cuts your import bill instead — a battery lets you balance the two.

Can I Use a Different Supplier for SEG?

Yes. Your import (the electricity you buy) and your SEG export can be with two different suppliers, so it's worth comparing export rates separately. Some suppliers pay a higher SEG rate only to their own import customers, so weigh up the combined deal before you switch.
